2026: Moving Forward, One Thought at a Time
As 2026 arrives, it brings with it a familiar and energizing feeling — that sense of standing on the threshold of something new. It’s a moment that invites reflection and curiosity: What’s next? Where do we lean in with confidence? Where do we grow boldly? And where do we allow ourselves the grace to slow down, observe, and listen with intention?
Over the past months, as I’ve continued to explore and shape the vision for Union Mercantile, these questions have been constant companions. Though this journey is still in its early stages, it has already been incredibly rewarding. It has been filled with meaningful connections, thoughtful conversations, and moments of learning that reaffirm why this work matters.
I’ve had the privilege of meeting inspiring individuals from across the community — longtime business owners, creatives, makers, and neighbors — each generously sharing their stories with openness and sincerity. These conversations have painted a vivid picture of what it truly means to build and sustain a business in Vermont, and especially here in Manchester.
There are stories of success, pride, and deep-rooted relationships that span decades. There are also stories of perseverance, adaptability, and lessons learned through challenge. Together, they form an honest and hopeful tapestry — a reminder that every meaningful endeavor carries both joy and effort, triumph and growth. What stands out most is the willingness of people to share, often with the hope that their experiences might help illuminate the path forward for others.
I listen. I learn. I reflect. And I carry these insights with me as Union Mercantile continues to take shape.
Of course, moments of uncertainty arise — as they do in any creative or entrepreneurial process. Questions surface, ideas evolve, and the responsibility of building something new can feel weighty at times. But these moments are also where growth lives. They sharpen intention, deepen purpose, and make space for clarity to emerge.
Alongside uncertainty is something equally powerful: excitement. A sense of possibility. The quiet thrill of imagining what could be created. There is courage in taking steps forward without having every answer, and there is confidence in trusting the process. Each day brings new motivation, fresh perspective, and a steady belief that something meaningful is unfolding — even when the full picture isn’t yet clear.
What remains constant is this truth: where there is intention and heart, there is always a way forward. Growth doesn’t come from waiting for certainty; it comes from showing up, staying curious, and choosing to move ahead with purpose.
So I continue onward — embracing progress over perfection and trusting that every step matters. Plans will evolve. Ideas will refine. The path may surprise me. But forward motion creates opportunity, and without taking the leap, nothing new can truly come to life.
